Ⅰ.Learning materials: Task of 8B Unit 1 Changes in my hometown

Ⅱ.Learning aims:

  After the class, the students are expected to be able to

  1. Describe the old pictures and recent pictures of one’s hometown.
  2. Describe the details of the two pictures in different periods.
  3. Write a passage about the changes in the hometown.

Ⅵ. Learning procedures:

Step One: Speech time

   This is our school

   (Students are familiar with their own school, they describe their school with the facts and opinions. Students are requested to prepare before the class to consolidate the study skills in the last period.)

Sample speech

Our school’s environment is good. There is a large playground, one football field, two basketball courts and two volleyball courts. You can see many modern buildings in our school, they are our teaching buildings. We all study hard in them. When you walk in our school, you can see many green trees and colourful flowers. So the air is very fresh here and we enjoy our school life.

Step Two: Lead-in

  1. Talk about the pictures taken many years ago and recently

(Teachers show some pictures first on the screen to have a better view.)

  1. Express different feelings with different adjectives when seeing the pictures to practice how to state one opinion

(such as: amazing, very different, unbelievable, modern, beautiful…)

Step Three:Presentation

  1. Look at the two pictures in Part A on Page 18 and describe the differences between them

(T: In this unit, we’ve learnt about changes. Amy plans to write about the changes in Moonlight Town for her history project. She has an old picture and a recent picture of the town. Can you find the differences  between these two pictures with her?)

  1. Answer the questions:

 What can you see in the first picture?

 What are there in the second picture?

 What can you find in both of the pictures?

 What differences between the two pictures?

  1. Discuss and fill in the table with the information from the two pictures:

  1. Write about hometown

(1) Prepare to write about our hometown with the pictures on the screen or collected before the class from the library, the Internet, family members and so on.

(2) Learn about the tips in writing a report.

Structure: Five paragraphs: the topic of the report, environment, life, transport

and opinion about the changes

Handwriting: clear and neat

(3) Check the work: Spelling mistakes; punctuation mistakes; word usage mistakes, grammatical mistakes; missing words

(4) Exchange the passages with group members and learn the good sentences others used.

(5) Show the passages on the screen in front of the blackboard

(6) Give a evaluation of the passages written in class

(7) Express the feelings about the changes in the hometown.

   Enjoy the changes and enjoy the life.

Ⅶ. Homework:

  1. Try to find more changes in the hometown.
  2. Tell family members, friends or relatives to do something good to protect the environment.
  3. Read and remember the report Amy writes and the students owns. (necessary)
  4. Daily reading: Read a passage about our hometown.
